This season’s screenings, filmed at Gran Teatre del Liceu, Opera Australia, and Teatro alla Scala, feature some of the finest conductors, directors, and opera stars of our time.
Carmen: This awe-inspiring production by one of Australia’s most daringly theatrical
directors, Gale Edwards (The Boy From Oz, La Boheme), and awardwinning designers Brian Thomson and Julie Lynch, features richly costumed soldiers, smugglers, cigarette girls, urchins, matadors, and flamenco dancers swirling across the luminous outdoor stage on Sydney Harbour, lit by fireworks. Born in Israel, Rinat Shaham is one of the world’s most acclaimed Carmens, having performed the title role on numerous international stages.
